Dr. Matthew Zielinski, while new to Dr. Bonk’s staff, is no stranger to Chicago. He was born in North Chicago and moved to the northwestern suburbs of the windy city when he was four. Although Chicago has always been “home” to Dr. Zielinkski, he had the opportunity to pursue his passion for hockey by moving to Helena, Montana where he participated in Junior Hockey. While he was busy honing his hockey skills and traveling around the United States with his teammates, Matt earned his high school diploma from Helena High School. After graduation, he continued to pursue his hockey career at the collegiate level while attending Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Science, graduating with honors. For as long as he can remember, the health sciences were very intriguing. He continues to be fascinated with the complexity of the human body, as well as how the microscopic world combines to create the macroscopic.
This passion for life sciences inspired Dr. Zielinski to attend the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, where he was able to pursue his dental training and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree. Throughout his schooling, Matt applied his team experience and became a leader in numerous organizations. A high point was the opportunity to travel to Haiti on a humanitarian effort, providing dental care to many nationals who desperately needed this service. Following graduation, he entered a one-year General Practice Residency at Loyola University Medical Center. This residency, while not a requirement after earning his DDS, provided an intense, hands-on practical training opportunity for a vast array of procedures including complex treatment planning, basic restorative treatment, removable and fixed prosthodontics, endodontic therapy, surgical procedures, dental rehabilitation for those with special needs, and proper management of acute dental infections.
Already active in the dental professional community, Dr. Zielinski is a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, and Chicago Dental Society. He understands the value of lifelong learning and continues to actively participate as a Spear Study Club member, attending many continuing education courses which include: Invisalign, temporomandibular disorder diagnosis and treatment, direct restorations of the anterior segment, digital dentistry, and the future, predictability in endodontic treatment, and several pediatric seminars.
Although Dr. Zielinski spends a lot of time devoted to dentistry, he is an advocate of enjoying an active lifestyle. Much of his free time is spent with family and friends as he enjoys playing hockey, golfing, boating, wakeboarding, and supporting his favorite sports teams.
Dr. Bonk and Dr. Zielinkski met at Loyola University Medical Center, while Matt was active in the Residency program. They immediately connected on both a personal and professional level, making a longer term relationship between Dr. Bonk and Dr. Zielinski inevitable. Throughout the year, this duo evolved into something special, ultimately creating an opportunity for them to work side-by-side. Dr. Zielinski is looking forward to working with Dr. Bonk, but also with each and every patient. He values and understands that patient rapport is the foundation to building trust which will lead to a successful dental experience. Dr. Zielinski is thrilled to join Jeffrey T. Bonk, DDS, PC where Matt’s gentle heart, dedication, and enthusiasm are certain to have a positive impact.
