DR. BONK graduated from Loyola School of Dentistry in 1981. Following his graduation, he entered a one-year General Practice Residency at the Loyola Medical Center (formerly Foster G. McGaw Hospital), providing advanced training in the dental specialties of periodontics, oral surgery, and prosthetics, as well as training in hospital medicine and treatment of medically compromised patients.
In 1982, Dr. Bonk entered private dental practice in the medical professional buildings of Good Shepherd Hospital. The practice was later moved to its present location at Old Northwest Center.
Dr. Bonk is very committed to continuing dental education. He has spent many hours refining and mastering his skills through attendance at the continuums of the L.D. PANKEY INSTITUTE for Advanced Dental Studies. He received the designation of Pankey Scholar in 2005, and was recently awarded the prestigious position of a visiting teaching faculty at the Pankey Institute. Additonally, Dr. Bonk has completed the educational series of the SPEAR INSTITUTE (formerly the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education). Recently he joined the SPEAR INSTITUTE as a member of the Anterior Live Patient Faculty and, in the spring and early summer of 2009, will participate as a visiting faculty member in the Anterior Live courses offered
at the Scottsdale facility. Dr. Bonk is also a member of the Spear Faculty Study Club and has completed the educational programs offered by the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study. Dr. Bonk was a speaker in 2005 and 2006 for the Sacramento California Dental Society and regularly presents educational programs to several local Dental Society meetings. His most recent local presentation was January 2009 to the West Suburban Dental Society on Dental Esthetics.
DR. BONK often provides educational lectures and programs for local dental societies, dental study groups, and college dental students. According to Dr. Bonk, "Playing the role of educator keeps you on your toes and sharpens your mind."
Dr. Bonk is also a mentor dentist for the dental students at the University of Illinois School of Dentistry, as well as a mentor dentist for participants in the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. In this capacity, Dr. Bonk is able to share his knowledge and skills of advanced restorative dentistry by providing advice, leadership, and support.
Professional memberships include the American Dental Association, Chicago Dental Society, and the Northwest Suburban Branch of Illinois State Dental Society. Additionally, Dr. Bonk is affiliated with three dental study clubs: The Great Lakes Study Club, The Excellence Study Club, and the Northwest Interdisciplinary Dentofacial Study Group. These study groups promote
further dental education through case studies and guest presenters to enhance our patient treatment planning. These groups bring together both restorative and various dental specialists.
Dr. Bonk has lived in the area for more than 25 years. He lives in the Village of Lake Zurich with his wife and three children. He has been active in many organizations within the area, especially with the Boy Scouts of America and the local Soccer Association. Golfing, snow skiing, hiking and mountain biking are among his favorite leisure activities.
